The Temple Mount, God's "holy hill" (Psa. 2:6; 3:4)

…is often the center of attention in Israel and the Muslim world. In July, guns were smuggled into its Islamic "holy" place and used to kill two non-Jewish Israeli policemen. Both were Druze. So Israel placed metal detectors at Muslim entrances. The detectors were already in place at all other entrances.

The Palestinian Authority [PA], Hamas, other Islamic entities and other nations, blamed Israel for trying to change the "status quo." Yet that was altered when three terrorists murdered Israelis from that place.

After deadly riots, vicious terrorism and global pressure, the Israeli government gave in to this bully – the spirit of Islam. While it was expedient at the time, it does not speak well to the future, yet God knows and still reigns (Psa. 103:19)!

Anti-Semitism & anti-Zionism: the good & bad news

The good news is that for centuries God's enemies have tried to destroy His nation and people without total success. Keep not silent God! Hold not Your peace! Be not still! For look, Your enemies make a tumultuous noise. They that hate You exalt themselves, taking crafty counsel against Your people, [saying] …'Come, let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel be no longer remembered'. (Psa. 83:1-4) Written millennia ago, this is still the goal of God-haters today. Yet Israel and the Jews are still here and God is openly fulfilling His prophetic Word in and with them for His glory (Psa. 115:1-3).

Whether Jews settle in Jerusalem, Judea (Zech. 12:2-8) and Samaria (Jer. 31:4-5), or rise up from Nazi death camps to be an exceedingly great army (Ezek. 37:10), or fill the world with fruit literally and figuratively via life-saving inventions (Isa. 27:6), or return from the ends of the earth (Isa. 43:5-7; Jer. 31:10), or turn to Messiah Yeshua (Jer. 32:37-40; Ezek. 36:24-28; Zech. 12:10) – all this and more proves God's faithfulness to His Word (Isa. 55:11; Jer. 1:12). This also includes His promise of the eternality of Israel's descendants. Thus says YHWH, who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and stars for a light by night… if these ordinances depart from before Me…then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever …If heaven above can be measured, or the earth's foundations searched out, then will I cast off all the seed of Israel for all they have done, says YHWH. (Jer. 31:35-37)

The bad news is that most nations and groups who have tried to harm Israel, no longer exist. While this is good for Israel and the true Church, it is not good for nations resisting God's acts in Israel today (Isa. 60:12; Joel 3:1-2). As we show in Why God Judges the Nations, He judges Israel for its sins and judges gentile nations according to how they deal with Israel: if they bless Israel, they will be blessed; if they curse Israel… (Gen. 12:3a; Num. 24:9b)

If this is your nation, God still seeks intercessors to stand before Him, to ask for mercy instead of judgment. (Ezek. 22:30).

The Iranian regime is an enemy of God's today

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei called Israel a "cancerous tumor," and calls for a "holy intifada [uprising]" to destroy the "Zionist regime," and its "cruel occupation." He sees this as "the most important issue in the world of Islam and as the pivot of unity for all Muslims…" ("Iran's supreme leader backs 'holy intifada' to destroy 'cancer' Israel," TOI, 21 Fee. 2017)

Over 500,000 people have been killed in Syria's civil war, millions injured, internally displaced, or now refugees. Its economy and infrastructure is in ruins, and current peace talks show "that Syria is no longer in Syrian hands. An unholy mixture of superpower and other foreign interests" is redrawing its map.

This Russian, American and Iranian involvement, along with Islamic State's [IS] weakening and loss of territory means that Iran now rules areas from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean. It controls Iraq, via "Shi'ite militias under its command," and has just signed a military pact with that nation. It influences "what happens in Syria militarily and economically," and aims to build a seaport on Syria's Mediterranean coast. Syria's President views this positively, yet Prime Minister [PM] Bibi Netanyahu has warned Russia's President Putin Israel will not allow this. ("[IS'] wane sets stage for regional superpower Iran," Avi Issacharoff, TOI Analysis, 19 Mar. 2017; "Iran & Iraq Form Military Alliance," ICEJ News, 24 July 2017)

From Intercessors for Israel's July 28 Prayer Alert: "We've prayed for years against Iran establishing a link from Iran to the Mediterranean – what the King of Jordan calls 'the Shi'ite Crescent'. Unfortunately, that which even this Muslim King warned about is happening today – thanks in large part to the Syrian ceasefire agreement worked out between US President Trump and Russian President Putin.

"The Trump-Putin deal leaves Iran in Syria and, of course, Iran already controls Lebanon through Hezbollah, which has final say in that nation. This means Israel's security situation has just become much more dangerous: Iran surrounds this nation today."

Trump has no clue about this! On July 25th, in a White House press conference with Lebanon's PM Hariri, he made a ludicrous claim that Lebanon was "on the front lines in the fight" against Hezbollah! Yet today, Hezbollah is a major government partner in Lebanon. It "controls the most powerful military force" in that country, and Lebanon's "Christian" President Aoun, is its loyal ally. Since it has "tremendous influence over Lebanese politics," and is in reality an Iranian proxy, "Lebanon is, to a large extent, a state under heavy Iranian influence."

Ex-Israeli Defense Minister Ya'alon, interviewed by a Saudi news website, said, "If Hezbollah were to make the foolish mistake of escalating tension" with Israel, Israel has clearly said it would not "distinguish between Lebanon and Hezbollah…"

Trump does not see this, and that is problematic for Israel's next inevitable confrontation with Hezbollah. Recognizing the Lebanon- Hezbollah-Iran link is "essential to understanding Israel's displeasure" with the US-Russia Syrian cease-fire deal "that leaves Iranian and Hezbollah influence in Syria largely intact." ("Clueless Trump," JP Editorial, 27 July 2017)

Re: God's land – Back off!

We're still unsettled by Trump's attitude towards God's nation and land. While a better friend than Obama, his goal of the "ultimate deal" between Israel and the Palestinians is anti-biblical. Yet as he is a friend, Israel is more inclined to bow to his wishes. This is not good news for America or any Israeli leaders who put their trust in the "arm of flesh" (Jer. 17:5).

For example, Trump asked Israel to hold off settlement building in Judea and Samaria, but international law states it is legal and expected! "The historic right of the Jewish people to their national homeland, Israel, was recognised in the San Remo agreement of April 1920 and the Mandate for Palestine of July 1922, unanimously approved by the Council of the League of Nations and signed by the Principal Allied Powers. This made it an international treaty legally binding on all Member States, and the Covenant of the League of Nations itself (Art. 22). These rights are legally protected in Article 80 of the UN Charter." (Ebenezer Operation Exodus Declaration, Ebenezer Operation Exodus Issue 1/2017.)

Thus international law decrees that all of Israel, even the mislabeled "occupied territories," belongs to the Jewish people. Yet the anti-Christ spirit is also very anti-Semitic, deceiving many to oppose God's promise to restore His people to His land, and to Himself through Messiah Yeshua (Jer. 32:41; Zech. 12:10).

In April, after meeting Trump, Egypt's President el-Sissi said, "Peace between Israel and the Palestinians would be 'the deal of the century'," aping Trump's words. A Jordanian political analyst said Trump's "amicable relationship" with Bibi gives "him greater leverage with Israel." And that is what concerns us. ("US, Egyptian leaders discuss regional peace summit," Israel Hayom, 4 Apr. 2017)

Trump's flawed "peace deal" analogy

Elyakim Haetzni writes that Trump's "analogy between a business deal and a political-territorial conflict," is deeply flawed. "Real estate in Manhattan is not equivalent to the lands of Jerusalem … Jerusalem is just the gist of the essence of the entire 'Holy Land', and all those who tried to trade in it got their fingers burnt." (Zech. 12:2-3, 9) The hope "of returning to Jerusalem" and the Land of Israel, was God's anchor for the Jews during exile. Returning after the Holocaust is it "reasonable to expect [us] to suddenly give up [our] long-awaited goal in exchange for some kind of deal?" ("No deal, Mr. President," E. Haetzni, Ynetnews Op-ed, 10 May 2017)

Yet as of mid-summer, Trump and team still focused on a deal. Believers in America – recognize how dangerous this is and stand in the gap for your nation. This desire to divide God's land is sin against Him (Lev. 25:23; Joel 3:1-2; Amos 9:14-15; Zech. 12:9).

What is your worldview?

The filter through which we discern everything that happens must align with God's worldview – His Word – especially in all areas where His Word is clear, and God's Word clearly says Israel is "the apple," the pupil, of His eye (Deut. 32:10; Zech. 2:8). Beyond meaning whoever touches Israel touches God's eye, it also means God views the world through Israel, His filter.

So how did Trump's recent ME trip line up with God's Word?

Trump's ME trip: The good – for the most part

In Saudi Arabia, before Muslim Sunni leaders, Trump condemned "radical Islamic terror" and called for a united front against it. Yet he erroneously said, "This is not a battle between different faiths," but it most definitely is. He rightly called this "a battle between good and evil," saying "Islamic extremism," and "Islamic terror" must be confronted.

Acknowledging that most terror victims are Muslims, he said it is a tragedy, "not just in the number of dead, but in generations of vanished dreams." Yet he again erroneously said terrorists "do not worship God, they worship death." Actually, they worship their god Allah, and are trained to be zealous and skillful to kill and be killed for Islam's supremacy. ("Trump: Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist organizations," Arutz 7, 22 May 2017)

In Israel, Trump said "his historic visit" was "a rare opportunity to bring security, stability and peace" to the ME. Yet Paul warned, For when they say, 'Peace and safety', then sudden destruction comes on them…and they shall not escape. (1 Thess. 5:3)

At Yad Vashem's Holocaust museum, Trump said the Holocaust was "the most savage crime against God and his children…" ("Trump: Holocaust was the most savage crime ever," Arutz 7, 23 May 2017)

His keynote address at the Israel Museum was very pro-Israel, saying "a hopeful future for children in the ME requires the world to fully recognize the vital role of the State of Israel," and adding that the Jewish people's ties to the land "are ancient and eternal."

While "extolling the prospects of Israeli-Palestinian peace" in seven public appearances, he never mentioned "a Palestinian state, a two-state solution or settlements," a nice change from the Obama/Kerry era. And in Bethlehem, with PA President Abbas, he said, "Peace can never take root in an environment where violence is tolerated, funded and even rewarded."

At that meeting, Abbas condemned the recent Manchester terror attack. Bibi retorted, "I hope this heralds a real change … because if the attacker had been Palestinian and the victims had been Israeli children, the suicide bomber's family" would receive "a stipend from the PA." ("Trump leaves Israel with no mention of Palestinian State, settlements or Embassy," JP, 24 May 2017)

The not so good

Times of Israel editor David Horovitz noted that despite Israel's expectations, Trump "has not yet moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, has not moved to scrap the US-led nuclear deal with Iran, and has not given Jerusalem carte blanche on settlement building." In mid-July, there was a report that he wanted to scrap the Iran deal but was encouraged not to by White House insiders.

Trump signed a huge economic deal "with Saudi Arabia, worth in excess of $380 billion over the next 10 years," with over $110 billion in weapons sales. By comparison, the hotly debated "US-Israel memorandum of understanding on US 'security assistance'" signed last year with Obama, was "$38 billion over the coming decade," a tenth of the Saudi deal. And while the US promises to maintain Israel's qualitative military edge, the Saudis are getting "extremely advanced weaponry, in extremely large quantities."

US Sec. of State Tillerson and Saudi Foreign Minister Jubeir stressed this deal will "deepen the relationship" of their nations, including a "mutual commitment to each other's defense."

Jubeir wants to help the peace process, but the Saudi idea of an Israel-Palestinian peace leading to an Israel-Arab peace is totally unacceptable. The Arab/Saudi Peace Initiative of 2002, "reaffirmed just weeks ago at an Arab League summit," demands an Israeli return to the pre-67 borders and an unclear solution for Palestinian "refugees." So far Israel has constantly rejected it. ("Warmth & scale of Trump-Saudi embrace could spell trouble for Netanyahu," D. Horovitz, TOI, 21 May 2017)

Also, Saudi Arabia is the source of most modern radical Sunni terror groups, like al-Qaeda and IS. It is not Israel's friend. Both Sunni and Shi'ite Islamic fundamentalism demand Israel's destruction because "Palestine" is wakf territory – a land once under Allah's rule which must be retaken by all means, including jihad. Yet business is business, and Trump told reporters it was a "tremendous day" because of the "hundreds of billions of dollars of investments into the US and jobs, jobs, jobs." ("In Saudi Arabia, President Trump receives royal welcome," Israel Hayom, 21 May 2017)

In Trump's message to Arab and Muslim leaders, he "did not declare America's unwavering support for Israel," nor urge them to accept Israel's existence. And while he "listed Jews as innocent victims of terrorism," he actually left Israel off of a list of ME nations battling terror. ("Ignoring Israel, Trump misses chance to push for peace where it counts," Raphael Ahren, TOI, 21 May 2017)

Following Trump, "Jordan's King Abdullah restored the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to its familiar place at the heart of Arab world rhetoric," calling for "peace based on a two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative," and ignoring the current chaos in the Arab world, he said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was "the core issue" of the ME. ("Israel, barely mentioned by Trump, can only hope his focus on tackling terror yields results," D. Horovitz, TOI Analysis, 21 May 2017)

Tillerson said Trump had put pressure on Bibi and Abbas to negotiate, telling Abbas, "I firmly believe that if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace throughout all the ME." Talk about deception! As Caroline Glick wrote, "on a substantive, strategic level," Trump has maintained Obama's policy in what will bring about ME peace. ("Netanyahu's Challenge with Trump," C. Glick, JP Op-ed, 25 May 2017)

Trump, awed by the Pope, tweeted, "Honor of a lifetime to meet His Holiness Pope Francis. I leave the Vatican more determined than ever to pursue PEACE in our world." The Pope gave Trump a small sculptured olive tree as a gift, saying, "It is my desire that you become an olive tree to construct peace." ("Trump 'determined to pursue peace' after Pope meeting," bbc.com, 24 May 2017) Did this meeting have prophetic implications? Watch and pray.

After the Pope, Trump told US troops in Sicily that he is determined "to establish a coalition of moderate Muslims, Christians and Jews to combat terrorism," because, "children of all faiths deserve a future of hope and peace…that does honor to God…" ("Netanyahu assured me he's ready to reach for peace," Israel Hayom, 28 May 2017) So Jews, Christians and Muslims all serve the same "God"?

Jerusalem – Israel's eternal capital

Bibi sees moving the US embassy to Jerusalem as advancing the peace process "by correcting a historical wrong and shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel." ("Senior member of Trump team said to tell Israelis: Western Wall is not your territory," TOI, 15 May 2017)

Before Trump's trip, H.R. McMaster, his national security adviser, twice "declined to say" to reporters "whether the Western Wall is in Israel," opting instead for, it is "a policy decision"!

To those same reporters, ex-White House press secretary Spicer did say the Wall was "clearly in Jerusalem," but "declined" to say whether Jerusalem was "a part of Israel." ("McMaster declines to say whether Western Wall is in Israel," CNN, 16 May 2017)

Rabbi S. Boteach: "It is outrageous that out of the 190 nations America has diplomatic relations with, Israel is the only one whose capital is not recognized by the US government." ("Prominent US figures press Trump to move embassy to Jerusalem," Israel Hayom, 17 May 2017)

Holocaust Denial Hypocrisy & Abbas

The David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies Director, R. Medoff, said, "A French political leader who referred" positively to a known Holocaust denier was forced to resign "in disgrace," but Abbas who did the same is received by Trump. Abbas quoted R. Faurisson, the Holocaust denier, in his 1983 Moscow Univ. doctoral dissertation, The Other Side: The Secret Relations between Nazism & the Leadership of the Zionist Movement, which states that "Zionist leaders 'collaborated with Hitler'," to kill more Jews, as "more victims meant greater rights" and advantages to be at the negotiating table, to divide the spoils of war afterward.

Abbas said much less than six million Jews were murdered, as some scholars, like Faurisson, believe it was "only a few hundred thousand." Abbas still believes this; interviewed on Lebanese TV in 2013, he said, "I challenge anyone to deny the relationship between Zionism and Nazism before WW II." ("Double Standard on Holocaust Denial," R. Medoff, JP Op-ed, 6 May 2017) Yet Abbas is invited and feted in all Western capitals?

For Israelis, security trumps peace

A Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs poll showed a sharp drop in hopes for peace among Israeli Jews: 69% don't see negotiations leading to a deal; 77% are against a 'Palestine' in the "occupied" area of Judea and Samaria; 71% want peace based "on Palestinian recognition of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people"; 81% demand Israeli security control of the Jordan Valley; 50% oppose transferring Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods to the PA; and 83% oppose Israel giving up sovereignty over the Temple Mount. This major shift of attitudes since the Oslo Accords is the fruit of Palestinian intransigence. It is also an answer to prayer for God to harden the hearts of Israel's foes so that Israel could not divide His land. With today's ME realities, Israeli Jews are "much more suspicious of Palestinian intentions and much more aware of security dangers." ("New moves toward a Peace Agreement must consider Israeli Public Opinion," Brig.-Gen. (res.) Y. Kuperwasser, JCPA, 30 Mar. 2017)

Israeli Parliament members [MKs] told US Jews that "security trumps peacemaking." American Jews are struggling with Israel's "changed political and economic conditions…" Until recently, US Jews had projected "their political worldview on Israelis." This view from exile "presumed to judge policies and actions of Israel based on values and morals" of a US Jewish experience. Yet today Israelis reject this mindset, veering rightward. A left-wing MK sees this as no surprise in the face of "relentless hostilities; continual renewed waves of violence" against civilians, and "decades of failed peace negotiations." ("Adjusting to the Israeli consensus on the Palestinians," The Jewish Advocate Editorial, 14 Apr. 2017)

Trump had previously said, "Until the Palestinians give up terror and recognize Israel as a Jewish state, a peace agreement will never be reached," yet now he says, "Abbas wants peace." But facts show that is a lie, as those "who want peace do not fund indiscriminate killings" of people they want peace with, nor do they "condemn the killing of terrorists" caught in the act. They do not have a school curriculum, educating children for jihad and martyrdom. "As long as Palestinians are led by terrorists, reared to hate, and paid to be terrorists, the probability that peace" will be negotiated is zero. "This is the inconvenient truth of the Israel-Palestinian conflict …" ("The inconvenient truth about the Israel-Palestinian conflict," Fred Maroun, TOI Blogs, 22 June 2017)

Satan's "security" trap is to trust man rather than God. Jordan's FM Safadi said, "Arab countries would provide security for Israel if it withdraws from Judea and Samaria." So for Israel to get an Arabic security blanket, all it must do is forsake its land liberated in '67. Divide God's Promised Land and Muslims will protect us? His comments match those of Jordan's King: "The whole point of our peace initiative is for us to be guarantors of Israel's security." ("Jordan to Israel: Withdraw and you'll get security," Arutz 7, 30 Apr. 2017) This conveniently ignores Islam's taqiyya tactic – its stamp of approval on Muslims who lie to further Allah's cause.

Liberated Jerusalem's Jubilee

On May 21st, celebrating 50 years of Jerusalem's "liberation and unification," Bibi stated, "It is not our adherence to Jerusalem that demands an explanation, but rather the disgraceful attempt" by UNESCO and others to erase Israel's ties to its city and land. Yet faced with this hypocrisy, the truth is still that "Jerusalem has always been the national capital of the Jewish people alone, and not of any other people. We do not need to explain our presence in Jerusalem." This is Israel's by both historical and biblical right. ("Netanyahu: Jerusalem will always be Israel's capital," Arutz 7, 22 May 2017)

UN slanders Israel on the 6-Day war's 50th anniversary

David Hornik, noting the "many statements lauding or lamenting the Six Day War and its outcomes for Israel," said, "Statements of the former kind emphasize that the war gave Israel defensible borders, a close alliance with the US…and, eventually, peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan…

"Statements of the latter kind bemoan Israel's 'occupation' of the Palestinians and describe it as a disaster… UN Secretary-General Guterres offers some of the most egregious remarks in this vein," saying "This occupation has imposed a heavy humanitarian and development burden on the Palestinian people," as generations have grown up and live in packed refugee camps, "many in abject poverty, with little or no prospect of a better life for their children." He added, "Resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will remove a driver of violent extremism and terrorism in the ME and open the doors to cooperation, security, prosperity and human rights for all."

Rebuking this claim of "the alleged misery of Palestinian life since Israel took over," Hornik refers to Israeli columnist Yemini's recent piece, "The Truth about the Occupation." Yemini favors an Israeli withdrawal "from most of the West Bank," yet he wants a discussion "based on truth…" He examined "key elements of Palestinian life" before and after of the "occupation," and the results do not back Guterres' claims. Some examples:

Based on a Palestinian study and World Bank figures, infant mortality rates have gone from over 100 per 1,000 live births in 1967 to only 18 deaths today. Yemini: "[Infant] mortality rate among Palestinians is much lower than the global average of 31.7, and is significantly lower than the average in the Arab world – 28." Life expectancy has also risen: from 48-49 years in 1967 to 73-75 years today.

"In 1967, only four of 708 Palestinian towns and villages were connected to running water." Today, 643 communities – 97% of the population, are connected. Yet Guterres claims that "Israel is mercilessly grinding the Palestinians down."

His view of this conflict as "a driver of violent extremism and terrorism" is a bigger lie. Before the "Arab Spring," claims like this were the norm. Yet since then, the ME has had six years of conflict between just about every people group and nation. To say that this is a result of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is ludicrous.

In fact, seeing the hatred between the PA and Hamas in Gaza, "suggests that Israeli security control" of Judea and Samaria is "preventing another [ME] hellhole from erupting." ("UN Sec-Gen. Launches Slanderous Attack on Israel," D. Hornik, PJ Media, 7 June 2017)

Settling our inheritance

After the 1967 War, Nathan Alterman, modern Israel's most influential poet, wrote, "The achievement of this victory is that it essentially erased the differentiation between the State of Israel and the Land of Israel…[Now] the only thing [Israel] needs to reconnect to its history is for the people of Israel to take all we've achieved and weave a three-way thread that cannot be broken."

He once told another poet, "If we concede that Judea and Samaria are not ours, we would have to rewrite the entire Bible." ("This land is our land," D. Eydar, Israel Hayom Op-ed, 31 Mar. 2017)

MK Hanegbi, at the "Celebrate 50 Years of Rejuvenation in Judea & Samaria" event in America, said, "Defense is important and security is important, but the most important thing is the moral claim of Israel," adding that Israel's land "was given us not by Google and Wikipedia, but by the Bible." ("Israeli Minister: Bible, not Google. gives Israel Moral Right to Land," JP, 28 Mar. 2017)

But Israel has gay-pride parades

Recently, Intercessors for Israel received this question: "The Israeli government contributes finance to Gay Pride and homosexual organisations. So how does that line up with the word of God? Tel Aviv is reportedly the second largest gay capital of the world. The government allows gay pride marches in Jerusalem…I don't know how you can pray for a government that contradicts the word of God. You don't even highlight this in your weekly prayer points." 

Here's Chuck's edited reply: While all Western nations, except for a few in Eastern Europe, are now openly post-Christian and trend toward a liberal anything-goes direction, Israel is still – and I use this term solely for clarity – pre-'Christian'. The last true revival here was recorded in the book of Acts.  

What you are asking is why doesn't Israel act better than a 'Christian' nation? When the day comes for all Israel to be saved, only after that it will become all that which you are expecting it to be today. 

This is why we pray for security, so that all Israel will be alive to be saved; for aliyah, since God clearly states all Israel gets saved in the land; for no division of the land and for a government that resists the demand to divide this land, because God clearly states that all Israel gets saved in the land.

Here's a question for you: would you tell your gay neighbor to leave his/her gay lifestyle and then come to Jesus, or would you tell him/her to come to Jesus just as they are, and then, once saved, trust the Lord to give them the grace to live a life pleasing to Him? Most believers recognize that no one is truly released from the slavery to sin until they are saved. So why expect something different from Israelis?

I bring near My righteousness; it shall not be far off, and My salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel My glory.
